I think that the Girl talk video showed us how creative
people can be by transforming songs that have seen their more popular days, and
revolutionizing it into something more modern that’s fits a younger
demographic. In my opinion I believe
that he copyrighting laws and restrictions need to be changed to be more
realistic and support the creative technology centered society we live in. When it comes down to it the four or five
companies that own the rights to nearly ever song, and movie created and I think
that that is the major problem that we have at hand. The basic rule of copyrighted materials fair
use in its most general sense, is any
copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative”
purpose. In girl talks case I think that
this is exactly what he is doing. He is
not just taking songs and throwing a catchy beat under them, he is also
remixing the lyrics in a different fashion than there were previously. There has been so many lawsuits that could
have been avoided for example the one that the video talked about dealing with
Napster. Millions of people worldwide
sharing music for personal use in a sense is violating the copyright agreement
because people are getting music without paying for it. With this being said it may take away from
money that the artist can make off of album sales and that is understandable. I believe in light of all of this that even
though people are downloading songs for free that it can benefit many artist in
a positive way. The main way that I am
arguing here is recognition. The use of
sharing songs between a networked group of people increases the popularity of
artist, especially artist who are “up and coming” who other wise would struggle
to sale albums
I agree that current copyright laws should be changed to help people to one be creative again because capping our creativity only hurts everyone in the long run. And it hardly hurts artists who are already rich to have their songs downloaded and shared for free, that makes their merchandise more likely to be sold if more people know about the aritist.
