Girl Talk: Fair Use

I think that the Girl talk video showed us how creative people can be by transforming songs that have seen their more popular days, and revolutionizing it into something more modern that’s fits a younger demographic.  In my opinion I believe that he copyrighting laws and restrictions need to be changed to be more realistic and support the creative technology centered society we live in.  When it comes down to it the four or five companies that own the rights to nearly ever song, and movie created and I think that that is the major problem that we have at hand.  The basic rule of copyrighted materials fair use in its most general sense,  is any copying of copyrighted material done for a limited and “transformative” purpose.  In girl talks case I think that this is exactly what he is doing.  He is not just taking songs and throwing a catchy beat under them, he is also remixing the lyrics in a different fashion than there were previously.  There has been so many lawsuits that could have been avoided for example the one that the video talked about dealing with Napster.  Millions of people worldwide sharing music for personal use in a sense is violating the copyright agreement because people are getting music without paying for it.  With this being said it may take away from money that the artist can make off of album sales and that is understandable.  I believe in light of all of this that even though people are downloading songs for free that it can benefit many artist in a positive way.  The main way that I am arguing here is recognition.  The use of sharing songs between a networked group of people increases the popularity of artist, especially artist who are “up and coming” who other wise would struggle to sale albums

Web Interactivity

Interactivity is important for many different reasons, with the most important reason being that it gathers the interest of customers giving them a platform in which they are able to interact in some way.  With interaction more time is spent on a page with more options for the customer, or viewer of a web page drawing them in to your product. The article that I choose for this blog assignment is called “Interactivity is King”. In this article the author talks about how we are seeing a trend with more and more companies turning to interactivity for advertising purposes.  The author explains how we are far progressed from the days in which a information allowed no interactivity stating that “there is no way to deny the fact static pages just don’t cut it anymore.”  In this article the author also explains the importance and rationale behind creating and interactive website.  With the advancement of the Internet over the last decade and with all of the websites available on the internet that people navigate everyday, it is very important to make your brand stand out.  This article is related to internet communication because it explains a critical component that must go into creating a website that will have success in capturing the mind, and repeat visits of viewers.  Without a unique interactive platform for a website it will be indistinguishable from the million others on the internet making it hard to get your name or brand out to the public.  I think that one way we can measure web interactivity in a web design is by looking at what elements that are incorporated into a website offer an interactive platform for a user, and how realistic and convenient it is to interact on the website.

"Infromation and Networks"

The law that I most agree with is Sarnoff`s law which states, "the value of a network increases linearly with the number of people that are on it." I agree with law the most because I feel that it holds more truth than the other network laws. It is also much easier to comprehend compared to the other math based laws. The more people that are a part of a network increases its popularity. With that being said I think that popularity is something that many people consider valuable to satisfy their own personal and social needs. If there is a lot of people involved with a network, it holds more value than a network with fewer members because a smaller network may be seen as less credible due to fewer numbers of support.

I think that people will get there information from the internet five years from in the same form we do. With that being said, I think we will see major changes and advancements to the way we access the internet. With technology significantly improving every day I think that there will be a drastic paradigm shift from our current technology to much more advanced information technologies.

"Online Identity"

Online identity poses a big threat of falsified information used to gain advantages in the 21st century. The article touches on the importance of authenticity and anonymity when creating online profile and the many new ways companies such as Facebook and Instagram can target these “dog” profiles. New technology allows for social media websites to compare photos and information from multiple accounts to test the credibility of the user. Online users have freedom to join and app or organization with a quick, simple creation of a profile. Many people abuse these rights through social media by providing false names and incorrect. I believe that authenticity is much more important than anonymity when creating social identities. With the overload of false information we see on the internet in our generation, the need for these “profile proofing” technologies are very important. Andrew Lewmans thoughts on re-anonymize the web is ineffective in my opinion. There would be no truth to the profiles even though the truth is stretched in many cases. If one wants to show creativity through social media they have every right and should be proud of their work. This doesn’t mean that they have to be anonymous to do so. Also, these filters can put an end to creepers and other problems such as fraud that we face on social media.
